Overview
Gatopompas 2D platformer made as part of the Global Game Jam 2025. It was made by a small team of a game designer, a programmer, an artist and a musician over the course of 48 hours. The theme of the Jam was "Bubbles", so we decided to make the main mechanic revolve about the cat getting inside bubbles to reach places he couldn't otherwise. Currently we are working on polishing and expanding the game.
Some of my responsabilities:
- Define the mechanics of the player.
- Level design.
- Bubble behavior, spawners and ratio.
- Designed and implemented air fans and how they affect the player if they are or not in a bubble.
- Localization in 3 languages.
- Wind VFX.
- Aditional programming and art.
Game Synopsis
Pompas is a little cat that is sleeping in the living room. He loves playing with bubbles, so, in his dreams he has to avoid all kind of obstacles, going inside the bubbles and using their unique physics. Pompas doesn't like the origami figures that his human make, so in his dreams they will appear to prevent him from reaching the end of this dreamlike path.
Despite the cute visual style and the simple story, this game offers a harder experience than probably you would expect.
Game Features
Progress through the dream
Progress through the dream
Pompas is dreaming, and while some elements are familiar and safe (like the cardboxes), others aren't.
Evade the Origami
Those things look pointy, and hold even pointy objects (like knifes). Use the bubbles to cross safely without touching them. But be careful, they will break the bubble too!
Use physics to your advantage
You can slide slower on the walls, but you can't jump very far. Jump to bubbles, between bubbles or outside them. Make them collide with other bubbles to allow them to stand a hit to a wall without breaking. Use the wind fans to give them impulse and push them from the inside to make them slow or speed up!
